Iowa women will host and face winner of Holy Cross/Tennessee-Martin in NCAA Tournament
Iowa seeded first in Region 2 Albany
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa women’s basketball team as expected has been rewarded with a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will face the winner of Holy Cross vs. Tennessee-Martin on Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Iowa is seeded first in the Region 2 Albany.
The eyes of the nation will be on Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes as they face the daunting and unique task of trying to surpass what they accomplished last season when Iowa advanced to the NCAA title game for the first time in program history.
Clark, a 6-foot- senior guard from West Des Moines, and the reigning National Player of the Year, enters her fourth and final NCAA Tournament as the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer for both men and women.
The Hawkeyes earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament three times in school history (1988, 1992, and 2024). Iowa is 2-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament as a one-seed. Iowa has hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament seven times dating back to 2013.

Iowa (29-4) is riding the momentum from having won the Big Ten Tournament for a third straight season.
The other top seeds in the Region 2 Albany are UCLA at No. 2, LSU at No.3. and Kansas State at No. 4.
Iowa and Kansas State split two games in the regular season, while LSU defeated Iowa 102-85 in the 2023 national title championship game.
South Carolina is seeded first overall in the NCAA Tournament, while USC and Texas are the other No. 1 seeds.
Iowa defeated South Carolina in an NCAA semifinal last season.
Iowa is among seven Big Ten teams that received a bid to the NCAA Tournament, tying the conference record.
Ohio State is a No. 2 seed, while Indiana is a four seed.
The other Big Ten teams to make the NCAA Tournament are Nebraska, Michigan State, Michigan and Maryland.
The 2024 women’s Final Four will be held April 4-7 in Cleveland, Ohio.
