IOWA CITY, Iowa – Indianapolis power forward Dezmon Briscoe has de-committed from the Iowa basketball team, but hasn’t ruled out being a Hawkeye.
“After a lot of thought and conversations with my family and mentors, I’ve decided to reopen my recruitment due to the recent coaching change at the University of Iowa,” Briscoe posted on social media. “I want to thank the entire coaching staff, the university, and Hawkeye Nation for believing in me and showing love throughout this process.
“This was not an easy decision, but it’s important for me to explore all my options to find the best fit for my future, both on and off the court.
“With that said, Iowa is still a school I have great respect for and will continue to consider as I move forward. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. The journey continues.
The 6-foot-8, 220 pound Briscoe attends Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis and is ranked as a 3-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite.
Briscoe is the second member of Iowa’s 2025 recruiting class to de-commit since Fran McCaffery was fired as the Iowa head coach nine days ago.
The other is forward Joshua Lewis, a four-star recruit from Tampa, Florida.
Iowa also has lost seven players to the transfer portal since Fran McCaffery was let go: They are sophomore forwards Owen Freeman, Pryce Sandfort and Ladji Dembele, sophomore point guard Brock Harding, senior center Riley Mulvey, junior guard Josh Dix and freshman forward Cooper Koch.
There are reports that Iowa is in contract negotiations with Drake head coach Ben McCollum, who this season led the Bulldogs to a 31-4 record and to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where they lost to Texas Tech 77-64 on Saturday in Wichita, Kansas.
