IOWA CITY, Iowa – Brendan Sullivan’s brief time as an Iowa quarterback is over as he announced Friday night that he has entered the transfer portal.
His announcement came just one day after new Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski met with the Iowa media for the first time since transferring from South Dakota State in January.
Sullivan was listed as the No. 1 quarterback on Iowa’s 2025 spring depth chart.

However, it is widely assumed that Gronowski will be the starting quarterback once he recovers from shoulder surgery.
Sullivan only played one season for Iowa after transferring from Northwestern last summer.
The Davison, Michigan native appeared in 10 games last season, making three starts, including the 27-24 loss to Missouri in the 2025 Music City Bowl.
Sullivan passed for 475 yards and three touchdowns last season and rushed for 150 yards and four scores.
Sullivan will have one season of eligibility.
His departure leaves four quarterbacks on the current Iowa roster: Gronowski, Auburn transfer Hank Brown, walk-on Jackson Stratton and freshman Jimmy Sullivan.
Brown was listed as the No. 2 quarterback on the spring depth chart.
Stratton also started two games last season against Maryland and Nebraska when Sullivan and former Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara both were injured. Iowa won both games that Stratton started last season.
