Hawkeyes Offer Austin Coles
'27 Illinois WR Discusses Opportunity
It didn’t take long in circulation for Austin “AC” Coles’ sophomore highlights to catch the attention of college coaches. Michigan State, Miami (FL) and Texas A&M all offered in mid-December. It kicked off a stretch that has him up to eight offers.
Iowa became the latest to jump into the race for his services. The Hawkeyes offered him during his campus visit last Saturday.
“I liked the vibe and energy,” Coles said of the experience. “Sometimes it’s hard to explain. It’s just a feeling you get at certain schools.”
The Class of 2027 receiver from Barrington (IL) High witnessed the Hawkeyes working through spring practice.
“I really like how the coaches let the guys compete in the scrimmage. They really let them get into it,” he said.
Coles (6-4, 200) believes Iowa likes his size and a work ethic fueled by wanting to improve. The Hawkeyes will get a closer look at his skills when he camps with them this summer.
Florida, Illinois, Maryland and Ole Miss also have offered Coles. He visited Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana during the last month or so.
“Right now, I’m just really learning about how to navigate the recruiting process. I’m contacting and visiting colleges I think I’d like to check out, mostly Big Ten, but I’ll play anywhere I feel a connection to the coaches and team energy,” he said.
In nine games last season, the sophomore caught 43 passes for 896 yards (20.7 YPC) and six touchdowns.
