Iowa Makes Ohimai Ozolua Feel Wanted
'27 IL DE Lands Offer on Visit
If there was any doubt that Iowa was serious about Ohimai Ozolua, that ended when the Hawkeyes extended a scholarship offer during a campus visit last Saturday. The staff wasn’t the only entity letting the Illinois defensive lineman is future presence in town was desired, however.
“I loved the atmosphere at Kinnick (Stadium), mainly because of their fans,” Ozolua said. “The game was sold out, which made it a crazy environment. Every time I walked past some of the fans, they were always making little side comments about coming to Iowa. So, it’s always nice to feel wanted.”
Iowa became the second reported offer for the junior at Romeoville (IL) High School. Iowa State extended an opportunity when he visited Ames for its game against the Hawkeyes in early September.
Defensive line coach Kelvin Bell presented Ozolua with the Iowa offer. He then explained why he saw the 6-foot-6, 255-pound junior fitting in well with the program.
“He was telling me he not only likes my size but my personality and work ethic in the classroom. He was also letting me know that he’s gonna keep his eye on me and come see me soon. So, I’m looking forward to strengthening that relationship,” Ozolua said.
According to Maxpreps, Ozolua has recorded 9.0 tackles (4 solo, 1.0 TFL) and a sack through his team’s first five games of 2025. He also caught two balls for 48 yards and a touchdown as a tight end.
The 247Sports composite ranking has Ozolua as a three-star recruit, the 40th best junior defensive lineman nationally and the No. 11 player overall in Illinois for 2027.
Interest in Ozolua is picking up as time marches on. Iowa is well positioned in his recruitment with an early offer and a growing bond.
“Right now, I definitely feel very excited about the Hawkeyes. I’ve been talking to the recruits for a couple months now. So, I have already built a strong relationship with their program,” he said.
