Jake Nawrot Talks Iowa Offer
'27 IL QB Connecting with Hawkeyes
To say Jake Nawrot is “blowing up” along the recruiting trail would be an understatement. Scholarship offers are rolling in for the Class of 2027 Illinois quarterback.
Iowa jumped into the mix on Monday, when Nawrot announced the opportunity on social media. Earlier in the day, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tim Lester met with the junior signal caller and his parents at Arlington Heights (IL) Hersey High. That’s when the assistant coach extended the offer.
The Nawrots visited Iowa for a game during the season. The relationship has grown, leading up to Monday’s offer and making the Hawkeyes a contender in the race for his commitment.
“I like the culture and overall program history at Iowa,” Jake Nawrot said.
While quarterback roster spots are at a premium with the transfer portal impacting prep prospects, there’s plenty of interest in the 6-foot-4, 190-pound signal caller, allowing him time to find the best fit. He could use it with the flurry of new offers.
In addition to Iowa, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Rutgers and Duke have offered scholarships this month. He’d previously reported opportunities from Missouri, Northwestern, Kansas, Purdue and others.
Nawrot will use the next several months to sort through his options. He’d like to make a choice during the spring.
“Probably March, if I had to guess, will be when I decide, but it could be April, too,” he said.
The Hawkeyes will be pursuing Nawrot along with Fort Lauderdale (FL) Cardinal Mooney’s Davin Davidson and Lombard (IL) Montini Catholic’s Israel Abrams, fellow 2027 quarterbacks whom they’ve recently offered. Nawrot hopes to Iowa’s campus visit campus again in March, when he could check out the fit.
“I would like to learn more about their quarterback development and how their system is run,” he said.
With a visit already in the rearview mirror and the foundation of the relationship secured, the Hawkeyes might end up being the best spot for Nawrot.
“Iowa is definitely being considered, but we still aren’t sure what’s the best fit yet,” he said.
Nawrot is looking closely at the academic offerings among his options. They’ll be important to the final decision.
“Not too sure what I want to study, maybe Business or Engineering,” he said.
According to MaxPreps.com, Nawrot completed 71.1 percent of his throws for 3,078 yards and 41 touchdowns against just two interceptions as a junior in 2025. He added 124 yards (4.1 YPC) and eight scores on the ground.
Prep Redzone ranks Nawrot as the No. 15 overall prospect in Illinois for the ’27 Class and the state’s No. 3 quarterback in the cycle.
