Chase Grove Feeling Good About Iowa
Hawkeyes Well Positioned for '28 IN QB
Chase Grove visited Iowa Football in late April. A few weeks later, Hawkeye position coach Tim Lester extended a scholarship offer after watching the 2028 Indianapolis North Central High quarterback throw at his school.
With that, Grove could have passed on camping at Iowa last month. He had nothing to prove to the Hawkeyes. He did it anyway to get a feel for working with Lester, who also is the team’s offensive coordinator.
“My biggest takeaway from the Iowa camp was the coaching,” he said. “I love the way coach Lester coaches and being around him was great. Being coached by an infamous coach like coach Lester is a blessing.”
Iowa entered a competition for Grove’s services that includes offers from Iowa State, Purdue, Minnesota, Kansas, UConn, Toledo and Miami (OH) so far. Notre Dame has hosted him on visits, and the Irish appear genuinely interested.
The Hawkeyes are well-positioned at this stage of Grove’s recruitment.
“Iowa is definitely one of the top teams I am considering, and they’re one of my favorite offers,” he said.
“The program is one of the best in college football. It’s one of four teams in the Power 4 that has had eight-plus wins each year for the past 10 years. They do the little things right and rarely ever make mistakes. That’s a program you want to play for.”
The Hawkeyes will bring Grove (6-2, 175) back to campus later this month. It’s another opportunity to connect and build a relationship.
“Me and the coaches have a great relationship already, and we are continuing to develop it together. On the next visit, all I’m looking forward to is continuing the relationship and meeting more people on the staff,” he said.
With half of his high school career still in front of him, Grove is practicing patience with his recruitment. He’s getting to know programs pursuing him in order to make the most informed decision.
“I will commit most likely after my junior season and before my senior season,” he said.
He already knows his field of study in college.
“Business, without a doubt. I want to follow in my father’s footsteps,” he said.
Prep Redzone ranks Grove as the No. 4 quarterback in Indiana’s 2028 Class. The scouting service views him as the state’s No. 18 player overall in the cycle.
As a sophomore in 2025, Grove completed 64 percent of his throws for 1901 yards and 19 touchdowns. He added four scores on the ground.
