A rising defensive back in the 2028 Class, Ryan Drakeford has a lot to consider when it comes to prospective colleges. The Gaithersburg (MD) Quince Orchard product already reports 31 scholarship offers. They include national champion Indiana along with blue-blood programs like Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Iowa jumped into the mix on May 11. While the competition for his commitment is stiff, the Hawkeye offer definitely piqued his interest.

“Iowa has a great football tradition,” he said. “I was honored to speak with the coaches about their interest in me.”

Drakeford (6-1, 180) is taking his time with the recruiting process, getting to know coaching staffs and schools better. He hopes the Hawkeyes stay involved.

“I’d like to visit at some point, if it could be arranged,” he said.

Georgia, Kentucky, Penn State, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Virginia, Oregon, Ohio State, Miami, Florida and Florida State played host to Drakeford for campus stops during the offseason. He measured them against his wish list.

“I’m looking for a school that’s well-rounded academically and athletically. I’d like a program that will develop me for the NFL draft combine and competition,” he said.

Academics will be a key part of the final decision.

“I intend to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minor in Programming. Additionally, I am interested in pursuing a master’s degree in Accounting,” Drakeford said.

Drakeford brings a great deal of athleticism to the field. He stands out in track and baseball in addition to his exploits on the gridiron.
