IOWA CITY, Iowa – Three-star defensive end Michael Lois didn’t want his recruiting process to draw out any longer.

The Elkhorn, Wis. native announced his commitment to Iowa via Twitter after making a gameday visit for Iowa’s season opening victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday.

“It feels great,” Lois said. “It was definitely what me and my family pictured during the whole recruiting process. It’s a good school that my parents would feel safe sending me to.

“They’re great people and great coaches. It fit my academics and what I wanted to study, so it’s definitely a good fit for me and I can’t wait to play there.”

As is often the case with recruits, the 6-foot-4, 260-pound Lois pointed out head coach Kirk Ferentz’s longevity as a big reason for why he decided to commit to Iowa.

Ferentz is in his 20^th year as the head coach at Iowa and became the all-time winningest coach in program history on Saturday.

“(It was) definitely the stability of the coaching staff,” Lois said. “Coach Ferentz has been there for 20-plus years and his son Brian and the rest of the coaches. Coach Kelvin Bell played there and now he’s coaching there so that’s awesome too.”

Lois is the second player to commit to Iowa’s 2020 recruiting class. He joins three-star quarterback Deuce Hogan, who is a native of Grapevine, Texas.

While many high school prospects draw out their recruitment in hopes of better scholarship offers, Lois is quite the opposite.

“I just wanted to tell Iowa, I’m loyal to you guys and I want to be with you,” Lois said. “I kind of wanted it to show that I really wanted to play for them and they got me. I didn’t want it to be a long process of headaches and having to worry and stuff. I’m glad I got Iowa and I just wanted to hop on it right away.”

Lois also had an offer from South Dakota State.
