2024 Arizona defensive end commits to Iowa
Devan Kennedy picks Iowa over offers from Penn State, Illinois among others
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Kirk Ferentz and his assistant coaches don’t normally spend much time recruiting the state of Arizona, but they made an exception with 2024 defensive end Devan Kennedy.
And it has since paid dividends as Kennedy announced his commitment to Iowa on Monday via Twitter.
He picked Iowa over scholarship offers from schools that include Penn State and Illinois.
“I am excited to announce that I have COMMITTED to the University of Iowa! Go Hawkeyes,” Kennedy wrote on Twitter.
Kennedy, who attends Brophy Prep High School in Phoenix, is listed as a three-star recruit and is the son of former Penn State defensive lineman Jimmy Kennedy, who was selected in the first round of the 2003 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams.
Devan Kennedy is listed as a 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive end.
He took an official visit to Iowa this past weekend, and obviously came away impressed.
Kennedy didn’t start playing organized football until his junior year of high school and he has gained about 50 pounds during this offseason.
Veteran recruiting analyst Tom Lemming traveled through Arizona in April and met with Devan Kennedy.
He ranks Kennedy as a three-star-plus recruit.
“Has good length, good hands and feet, explosive moves and good growth potential,” Lemming said of Devan Kennedy. ”
Kennedy is the 13th player to commit to Iowa 2024 recruiting class.
