2026 star wrestling recruit Bo Bassett commits to Iowa
Pennsylvania picks Iowa over Penn State, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech

IOWA CITY, Iowa – One of the nation’s top high school wrestlers in the 2026 class has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Pennsylvania native Bo Bassett announced his much-anticipated decision Tuesday, picking Iowa over Penn State, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech.
His commitment helps to erase some of the sting from Fort Dodge native Dreshaun Ross having recently committed to Oklahoma State for wrestling.
“It wasn’t an easy decision, but I think it was the right decision,” Bassett said to Flowrestling. “You get what you earn. And I’m eager to be a Hawk. Iowa is an empire.”
Basset projects anywhere from 149 to 157 pounds in college.
His decision comes just four days after Iowa lost to No. 1 -ranked Penn State 30-8 in State College, Pennsylvania.
The Nittany Lions were in his recruiting battle until the end, but Bassett ultimately chose to follow in the footsteps of former Iowa three-time national champion and fellow Pennsylvania native Spencer Lee by being Hawkeye.
Bassett is MatScouts’ No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 class and one of the more sought after recruits in recent history.
He won a bronze medal at the 2024 U20 World Wrestling Championships in Spain (65-kg weight class) in September, a gold at the U20 Pan American Championships this summer and was the 2021 U17 gold medalist.
NIL was obviously a factor in Bassett’s decision and he addressed that topic in an interview with Flowrestling prior to committing, saying that the financial deals from his four finalists were comparable and that the numbers being mentioned were high.
