IOWA CITY, Iowa – Tania Davis is no longer a member of the Iowa women’s basketball coaching staff as she reportedly has left to pursue other coaching opportunities.
The University of Iowa has not publicly released any information for why Davis left her alma mater.
However, a spokesperson for the UI said Thursday that Davis left to pursue other coaching opportunities.
Davis served as Iowa’s director of player development for the past two seasons, the first under former head coach Lisa Bluder and the second under current head coach Jan Jen Jensen.
Davis played point guard for the Hawkeyes under Lisa Bluder and was a starter on Iowa’s Elite Eight team as a senior in 2019. She scored 1,007 points as a Hawkeye.
There was speculation Davis would join former Hawkeye assistant coach Raina Harmon at the University of Florida-Gulf Coast where Harmon was named the new head coach in April.
But that hasn’t happened.
Iowa also has since filled Harmon’s coaching vacancy by hiring former Georgia Tech assistant coach Lasondra Barrett.
Former Georgia Tech point guard Chazadi ‘Chit-Chat’ Wright also has recently transferred to Iowa
In March, Davis was named to the 2025 Thirty Under List by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The WBCA Thirty Under Program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women’s basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner , and attitude and professional association involvement.
Davis, who is from Flint, Michigan, was an assistant coach for Omaha women’s basketball from 2021-23. She helped the Mavericks to 22 wins and to the Summit League Championship in 2022-23.
Davis graduated with a health and human psychology degree from Iowa in 2019. She earned her master’s in athletic leadership from Clemson in 2021.
