Iowa Football Recruiting Roundup 12-16-22
Seth Anderson at Iowa, Proctor Visiting 'Bama
IOWA CITY, Iowa – This week proved slower for news involving the Iowa Football roster compared to its predecessor. There was news, however.
Perhaps the biggest story regarding the Hawkeye program revolves around Pleasant Hill (IA) Southeast Polk High senior offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor. He’s the highest-rated 2023 prospect verbally committed. Members of that group are scheduled to sign national letters of intent on Wednesday.
This week, Proctor and his parents, Sarah and Kevin Perkins, welcomed Oregon coaches for an in-home visit. They were visiting Alabama this weekend after Tide head coach Nick Saban recently stopped in Pleasant Hill. ‘Bama pledges are hitting up Proctor on social media.
Proctor and his family aren’t sharing their feelings much publicly. They’re comparing the options and should have a final decision soon. That he remains verbally committed to Iowa and includes them in his Twitter bio is good for the Hawkeyes.
247 Sports bumped Proctor (6-7, 340) up to its No. 5 prospect nationally regardless of position in its most recent rankings. Rivals puts him at No. 14. Both services see him as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country for the cycle.
RECEIVING A VISIT
Charleston Southern receiver transfer Seth Anderson began his Iowa visit Friday. Hawkeye head coach Kirk Ferentz and position coach Kelton Copeland stopped at his house Monday.
Anderson (6-0, 178) added a Georgia Tech scholarship offer Wednesday. The son of former NFL receiver, Willie “Flipper” Anderson, visited the hometown Yellow Jackets in Atlanta on Thursday.
Seth visited Appalachian State last weekend and James Madison prior to that. He also reported offers from Kent State, South Alabama, Eastern Michigan, Marshall, Georgia State, Middle Tennessee State, Miami (Ohio), Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, Temple and others.
As a freshman at Charleston Southern, Anderson caught 42 passes for 628 Yards and seven touchdowns. He prepped at Suwanee (GA) North Gwinnett High, the alma mater of former Iowa running back Tyler Goodson.
RECEIVED A VISIT
Hillsdale College receiver Isaac TeSlaa visited the Hawkeyes last weekend. He visited Iowa State the weekend before.
Oklahoma State and Houston offered scholarships around the same time as the Hawkeyes and Cyclones. This week, Miami (FL), Baylor and Wisconsin extended opportunities to him.
TeSlaa (6-4, 200) was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year this fall as a redshirt sophomore. He hauled in 68 passes for 1,325 yards and 13 touchdowns for Hillsdale, located in his home-state of Michigan. The school sent Iowa former defensive end Zach VanValkenburg, who became an all-Big Ten performer.
NEW OFFER OUT
Terrell Washington Jr. committed to Purdue back in June. Last week, the Texas Athlete re-opened his recruitment when Boilermaker head coach Jeff Brohm bolted for Louisville. Wednesday, Iowa offered the ’23 Wylie (TX) East High standout, the only new offer he’s reported on social media since de-committing.
Rivals also lists Washington Jr.’s as Akron, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Washington State and others among his offers. The recruiting service sees him as a three-star prospect.
Washington Jr. (5-9, 200) has lined up at multiple positions during his time at Wylie East, including quarterback. In ’22, he rushed for 598 yards (10.3 YPC) and nine touchdowns, and caught 42 passes for 604 yards (14.4 YPR) and 13 scores. He chipped in with 185 yards on kick and punt returns.
QUICK-HITTERS
-Iowa isn’t ignoring the ’24 Class and beyond on the recruiting trail. Here’s a story about Connecticut defensive end Benedict Umeh, who added a Hawkeye offer this week.
-Midlothian (TX) High running back Deago Benson received a visit from Iowa position coach Ladell Betts and a Hawkeye scholarship offer on Dec. 5. He’s since reported offers from Kansas State and Georgia Tech after Boise State, Washington State, Vanderbilt and others offered before December. He visited Vanderbilt last weekend.
