Iowa Offer Intrigues Wyatt VanBoening
Hawkeyes in Running for '28 IL OL
Iowa Football made its move on Wyatt VanBoening, a highly-ranked 2028 offensive lineman out of Illinois. He reported receiving a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes on June 1.
They jumped into what has become a very competitive recruitment. National champion Indiana, Illinois, UCLA, Washington, Kentucky, Penn State, Duke, Ole Miss, Kansas State, Auburn, Notre Dame, Iowa State, Missouri, Tennessee, Purdue, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern and others also have reportedly offered scholarships.
While Iowa offered later than the other schools, the Hawkeyes are being considered thanks to their reputation for development.
“Iowa is a program that has consistently produced NFL talent, especially on the offensive line,” VanBoening said.
The 6-foot-7, 285-pound Mundelein (IL) Carmel Catholic junior-to-be visited Notre Dame twice this spring. He attended games at Northwestern and Illinois last fall.
VanBoening is working on a way to see as many campuses as possible in the coming months. The Hawkeyes could get a visit from the coveted blocker.
“I don’t currently have plans to visit Iowa, but I’m hoping to make it out to quite a few schools and narrow down my list heading into this season,” he said.
“As I visit those schools, I’m hoping to get a better feel for the culture and educational opportunities. The primary things I’m looking for in a school are a strong, stable culture that is competitive but not toxic, along with a good education.”
With a reported 4.04 GPA (and an 84-inch wingspan), academics will be a major component of VanBoening’s final decision.
“I plan to major in something related to Business, but I’m not particularly set on any specific field right now,” he said.
Prep Redzone ranks VanBoening as the No. 7 offensive lineman in Illinois’ 2028 Class. The scouting service sees him as the No. 32 player overall in the state for that cycle.
An agile and athletic lineman, VanBoening throws the discus and shot put for the track team. The smooth footwork shines through during his sophomore highlight video.
