St. Louis native Joseph Anderson commits to Iowa in football and track and field
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team, and the Iowa track and field team, both added a piece to the future when Joseph Anderson announced his commitment to Iowa via Twitter on Monday.
Anderson is a 6-foot-5, 210-pound defensive end in football as well as an accomplisher hurdler and jumper in track and field.
He plans on participating in both sports at Iowa, and Iowa’s willingness to let him compete in both sports helped to seal the deal.
Anderson earned all-state recognition in football last season and also qualified for state in the 110-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump.
Anderson is the 17th player to commit to Iowa’s 2024 recruiting class.
He picked Iowa over scholarship offers from schools that include Nebraska, Iowa State, Missouri, Kansas State and Kansas.
Anderson, who attends Westminister Christian Academy, finished last season with 54 tackles.
It was just his third year playing organized football.
Anderson is ranked as a three-star recruit by On3sports.
The opportunity to compete in two sports will put Anderson in select company at Iowa.
Brody Brecht played both football and baseball in his first year at Iowa, but the star pitcher has since quit playing football, where he was a receiver, to focus on baseball.
Brecht will be a junior next season.
Former Hawkeye Connor McCaffery also played basketball and baseball for part of his career before deciding to focus on just basketball in his final two seasons.
