IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa offensive coordinator Tim Lester is always looking for quarterbacks in the transfer portal and he just found another one.
Wake Forest transfer quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski has committed to Iowa according to multiple reports.
The 6-foot-0, 190-pound Marrietta, Georgia native will have four years of eligibility.
Hecklinski played briefly in one game this past season, taking three snaps against North Carolina.
Hecklinski was named the 2023 MaxPreps Georgia Player of the Year, MaxPreps National Player of the Year Finalist, and was an Adidas All-American.
He passed or 3,835 yards as a high school senior in 2023, completing 63.3 percent of his passes with 50 touchdowns and six interceptions.
As a junior, he completed 194 of 305 passes for 3,520 yards with 37 touchdowns.
Hecklinski’s commitment will help to fill the void caused by Brendan Sullivan’s recent decision to enter the transfer portal.
Hecklinski will be reunited with Warren Ruggiero, who was recently hired as senior analyst for the Hawkeye football program.
Ruggiero spent the last 11 seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Wake Forest.
Hecklinski is the third quarterback to join Iowa from the transfer portal since the end of the 2024 season.
The others are South Dakota State transfer Mark Gronowski and Auburn transfer Hank Brown.
Gronowski led South Dakota State to two FCS national titles and was a four-year starter.
